Proximity Marketing with the Bluegiga Access
Server - FAQs Q: Which Products are most suitable for the Proximity
marketing application? A: The Obex-Sender application can hold up to 6
connections with each of the radios used, A 3-Radio Access server (2293) can
thus maintain 18 simultaneous connections, and is the most suitable.
Q:
How do I use and configure the Obex-Sender? A: It is built into the
software supplied with the Access server, so only needs to be configured and
enabled, which can be done from the www interface.
Q: Can Obex-sender
get the phone number of a users handset? A: No. it is not possible to
obtain the cell-phone number from a handset using the obex sender. The
obex-sender obtains Bluetooth MAC addresses, which are unique to the Bluetooth
device. Obex-sender data-base stores and uses the MAC addresses as it's
reference to each remote device.
Q: Does the Obex-sender provide
statistical information about users? A: Yes, there is a configurable level
of logging to a log-file. This file is also used to configure the re-try rate /
timing for previously known users. The information is based around MAC
addresses as above.
Q: What range can I expect to communicate to a
phone handset? A: Most Handsets are Class 2 Bluetooth devices, so have a
typical 10 to 30 meter range in perfect conditions. Although the Access Server
is a class one device, Bluetooth is a two-way prototcol, so the weakest link
will define the range. Additionally, the type, and site-ing of Antenna's has an
important effect, so it is not possible to quote a minimum range without
specifics being taken into account. If range is an important factor for an
application, then testing in the actual environment is the only way to
accurately determine range.
Q: Can I Change/Modify the way the Obex
Sender Works? A: You can configure many aspects of Obexsender with the www,
BSM or other configuration methods, to suit requirements. It is not possible to
change the way in which obex-sender works, or to disassemble the code or
otherwise change it under the license agreement.
Q: What do I need to
know in order to use the system / Obex-Sender: A: The Obex-Sender
application, system development and installation requires from the company an
understanding of radio technologies, wireless and wired networks and
capabilities to interface with other systems. Some development resources may
also be needed, depending on the system complexity.
Q: Will Bluegiga be
in future providing complete systems with advanced features and web-interfaces?
A: The BSM provides a remote management interface solution, but Bluegiga's
role in Proximity Marketing systems is to be a platform supplier.
